An evaluation is recommended if your child:

  • Does not meet the age-appropriate gross motor milestones
  • Was born premature
  • Has a diagnosis that results in gross motor functional disabilities
  • Presents with a head tilt and a flat spot on their head
  • Does not tolerate tummy time
  • Prefers to scoot on their bottom instead of crawling
  • Presents with general muscle weakness or general muscle tightness
  • Walks on tip-toes, trips over their feet, or walks in an atypical/awkward manner
  • Presents with flat feet
  • Appears clumsy, frequently falls or walks into objects, or not aware of their surroundings
  • Coordination difficulties (throwing, catching, kicking, hopping, skipping, jumping jacks)
  • Avoids running, playgrounds, climbing, swings, or can’t keep up with their peers
  • Tends to “slouch” over instead of sitting or standing straight
  • Recent injury/surgery or frequent complaints of pain

In New Jersey, you get direct access to Physical Therapy and don’t need a doctor’s prescription/referral to start treatment. However, some insurance plans may require a referral from a Medical Doctor to reimburse for Physical Therapy services.

Pediatric physical therapy focuses on improving a child’s motor skills and overall physical function. It involves assessment, goal-setting, and interventions to address specific challenges, promoting independence and development.

I will conduct a thorough evaluation, which may include observing your child’s movements, assessing developmental milestones, and considering any medical history. From there, I’ll create an individualized treatment plan tailored to your child’s unique needs.

The simple answer is that OT focuses on improving a client’s ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL) and fine motor skills while PT focuses on improving a client’s ability to perform gross motor movement of the human body.  Call our office and we’d be happy to explain in more detail.

Out-of-Network: United Healthcare, Horizon BCBS, Anthem BCBS

We will provide you with all necessary documentation to submit for out-of-network benefits and reimbursement. The frequency and duration of therapy depend on your child’s needs. Typically, sessions range from 30 minutes to an hour. The frequency may vary, but we’ll work together to determine a schedule that suits your child’s requirements.

Your involvement is crucial. I’ll provide you with home exercises and activities to reinforce the therapeutic goals. Consistency is key, and we can work together to integrate therapeutic strategies into your daily routine.
